In the aftermath of the festive season, it is important to acknowledge that the visits from Father Christmas often result in an increase in household waste during and after Christmas and into the New Year. We urge you to refrain from using unlicensed waste carriers for the disposal of post-Christmas refuse or any other unwanted items.
Regrettably, much of this waste finds its way into our beautiful countryside rather than being directed to official recycling centres. Our colleagues in Staffordshire Police have recently reported sightings of a white van engaging in fly-tipping activities near the Shropshire border.
It is important to understand that both the individual responsible for the illegal dumping and the household from which the waste originated may face prosecution. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, enforcement actions can be taken by both local authorities and the Police. Therefore, if a "mate" with a van offers to do a "tip run" at a seemingly attractive price, we strongly advise you to consider the potential consequences and the true costs involved in such arrangements and where your waste is actually going to end up
Let us all work together to ensure responsible waste disposal and protect our environment during this festive season. |
